Welsh
Quilting
Betty Neff from Pennsylvania brings
her workshop from Quilt Odyssey to us in Sarnia. The
region of Wales, part of Great Britain, has had an
indelible impact on American quilting. Their “quilting
style” remains unparalleled to this day. Students will
learn to identify the unique addictive Welsh quilting
style. Betty will teach students the three basic steps
to creating a design (hands-on) and transferring it to
their fabric, ready to quilt on their own. Machine
quilters, no matter how skilled, will come away with an
expanded repertoire of quilting designs. Class time will
allow for a machine demonstration. This class should
improve, both in idea and execution, the way you
approach a quilting design.
**Betty’s husband, Richard, will
NOT be along with his expertise in repair and
maintenance of Featherweights.
Suitable for all skill
levels.

Sensational Sashiko
The author of
“Sensational Sashiko” brings to us this exciting workshop to
learn the Japanese technique of stitchery.
This is a
non-traditional approach to a traditional needle art form.
Sharon’s theory is that if can be done by hand, it can be
done by machine and sashiko is no exception.
Originating as the “common” man’s garment decoration,
sashiko has been adopted by quilters to add exciting designs to
their quilt tops and garments.
Using your sewing machine and heavy weight threads, learn
how to achieve this stunning embellishment on either a single
thickness of fabric or through a quilt “sandwich”.
Suitable for all skill levels.

Test Pattern Quilt
This relatively simple black and white quilt is designed for
embellishment. After creating the quilt top, you will use all
those fancy stitches on your machine, along with glossy threads,
to create a wall hanging that will serve as the “test pattern”
for your machine’s stitches.
If you prefer, you can make the quilt in bright colours and use
more simple stitching.
